Shockwave Therapy (SoftWave®) to Restore Movement, Speed Recovery, and Improve Performance.

We help active adults and athletes in Greensboro, NC recover faster and move better with clinical problem-solving and shockwave therapy delivered by a Doctor of Physical Therapy — integrated into a full movement, recovery and performance plan.

At LeBauer Physical Therapy, Shockwave Therapy (SoftWave®) isn’t a gadget, a shortcut, or a standalone fix.
It’s a powerful clinical tool we use to help stubborn tissues respond when progress has stalled.

We work with active adults and athletes who’ve tried physical therapy, massage, injections, rest, or “just time” — and still feel stuck with tightness, slow healing, or recurring issues that won’t fully resolve.

SoftWave® shockwave therapy uses broad-focused acoustic waves to stimulate deeper tissue responsiveness, increase blood flow, and encourage tissue adaptation — helping your body move, load, and recover more efficiently as part of your personalized rehab plan.

What Shockwave Therapy (SoftWave®) Is — and How We Use It?

Shockwave therapy uses acoustic waves to stimulate tissue repair, improve blood flow, and activate your body’s natural healing response.

SoftWave® shockwave therapy delivers painless acoustic waves deep into targeted tissues. These waves trigger cellular signalling and promote increased circulation, tissue adaptation, and functional responsiveness — all without injections, medications, or downtime.

SoftWave® shockwave therapy is often paired with dry needling and hands-on physical therapy to reduce protective muscle tension and improve how tissues respond to movement.

At LeBauer PT, we use SoftWave® shockwave technology as part of a larger clinical strategy, not as a quick fix.

That means:
• Proper movement based Total Body Diagnostic
• Full Body Movement and loading assessment
• Targeted application of shockwave therapy
• Follow-up movement, strength, and rehab work

(While we use SoftWave®, another popular branded form of shockwave therapy is called StemWave® — but our results come from how we apply it, not the logo on the machine.)

Why Our Approach Is Different

Most clinics offer shockwave therapy by itself. We don’t.

We integrate it into:
• Hands-on manual physical therapy
• Strength and loading progressions
• Mobility and movement retraining
• Sport-specific and performance-based rehab

This is why many of our patients succeed after being told:

“Nothing else will help.”
“You’ll just have to live with it.”
“Stop running.”
“Never deadlift again.”

We don’t tell people to stop training. We help them train differently — and smarter.

For active adults and athletes, shockwave therapy works best when combined with sports performance rehab that restores strength, mobility, and mechanics — not just symptom relief.

Shockwave Therapy (SoftWave®) – FAQs...

What is shockwave therapy?

Shockwave therapy uses acoustic sound waves to stimulate tissue healing, improve circulation, and help the body repair stubborn or chronic injuries.

Is SoftWave® shockwave therapy painful?

Most patients describe it as uncomfortable but tolerable. The intensity is adjustable, and treatments are brief. Many people say it feels like deep pressure rather than sharp pain. We know it's working if the discomfort reproduces or feels like your familiar problem.

How is shockwave therapy different from dry needling or massage?

Shockwave therapy works deeper and affects tissue signaling and healing at a cellular level. We often combine it with dry needling, manual therapy, and movement-based rehab for best results.

What conditions can shockwave therapy help with?

Shockwave therapy is commonly used for tendon pain, joint pain, plantar fasciitis, Achilles pain, shoulder issues, knee pain, hip pain, chronic muscle tightness, pelvic pain, erectile dysfunction and stubborn injuries that haven’t responded to other care.

How many sessions do I need?

It depends on the condition and how long it’s been present. Many patients notice changes within 1–3 sessions, while chronic issues may require a short series of 6-10 treatments lasting 2-3 months.

Can I keep training or exercising during treatment?

In most cases, yes. We rarely tell patients to stop training completely. Instead, we modify load, volume, or movement patterns while tissues recover.

Is shockwave therapy a standalone treatment?

Not typically. At LeBauer Physical Therapy, shockwave therapy is used as a tool within a comprehensive physical therapy and performance-based rehab plan — not as a one-off or stand alone treatment.

Do I need a referral?

No. North Carolina allows direct access to physical therapy, so you can schedule your visit without needing a physician referral. Just call or text us at (336) 271-6677 to speak with a Doctor of Physical Therapy to schedule a Total Body Diagnostic to see how we can help you move better and feel stronger again.

What Our Clients Are Saying...

They have done a fabulous job and I highly recommend LeBauer PT.

I came to see LeBauer Physical Therapy after 9 years of numbness and a tingling sensation running from my neck, through my arm, to my bottom two fingers on my hand. I had gone through physical therapy, rolfing, and acupuncture and nothing seemed to permanently cure it. It was affecting my ability to work on a computer and limited my ability to play tennis.

Thankfully after working with my physical therapist at LeBauer PT, I am more comfortable throughout the work week at my computer and I have been able to begin playing tennis. They have done a fabulous job and I highly recommend LeBauer PT.

9 years of numbness

"My physical therapist at LeBauer Physical Therapy makes traveling from Chapel Hill to see him well worth my time."

Earlier this week, I showed up for help with a tear in my rotator cuff that has been slowing me down for weeks.

After seeing my therapist, my pain got worse before it got better, but each day it was clear that it was improving. Today - only 4 days since he worked with me - my shoulder is pain free. I've been putting it to the test too: vacuuming, mountain biking.

Pain free! Sweet. Thanks, LeBauerPT!

Licensed Massage & Bodywork Therapist

I followed their advice and felt instant relief. In the past, this would have taken days to heal, but instead, I was feeling good that same day.

I injured my back lifting my son into his car-seat and was in so much pain that I found it difficult to breathe.

I immediately set up an online video visit with my physical therapist at LeBauer Physical Therapy who was able to quickly diagnose my injury and recommend some simple exercises to help release the muscles in my back. It was so wonderful that I could do this from the comfort of my home!

I have been able to exercise and continue my daily routine because of my speedy recovery.

I highly recommend getting a Today Body Diagnostic with the team at LeBauer Physical Therapy!"
